IB Learner Characteristic: Inquirer
For my Extended Essay, I looked into the language of anti-marijuana campaigns that the US government presented to its citizens as public service announcements. I got the inspiration for this topic from an article I read a long time ago, making fun about some of these ads, and it just stuck with me. I found it to be a very interesting topic that I had fun researching and analyzing. This fits into the inquirer characteristic of the IB learner profile as the Extended Essay is naturally an assignment about inquiring. The fact that I found such a good topic for me that I was able to develop in such a great manner really tells me that I fit into this inquirer aspect of the IB learner profile. A lot of people say that the topic that you choose for your extended essay will be a topic that you hate for the rest of your life, but that was definitely not the case. This was definitely a very challenging essay and one that took a lot of work and effort to complete, and I had a huge writer's block for a long time going into it. However, even now I can say that this topic is still very interesting to me and if I had to write another 4000 word essay on it, I would do it gladly. While doing the Extended Essay, I discovered my great writing and researching ability, and I realized how much my progress throughout the IB diploma program shows in my skills. My language use was great, I was able to find great sources and studies that were reliable and added valuable information to my essay, and I was also able to analyze the campaigns in a way that couldn't have been possible only a couple of years ago. Because of this, I am very proud of how far I've come as a student and how much I have learned during these years taking the IB program. |
