Persepolis Creative Review
IB Learner Characteristic: Communicator
This book review was one of my favorite projects within this subject because of the huge creative freedom we got for it. I normally loathe book reviews in their structured document form, but because of this creative freedom I was able to create a book report that I found to be interesting and that gathered and kept the attention of the viewer
This project fits perfectly into the communicator IB learner characteristic because that was exactly the point of the project; to communicate my thought on Persepolis in a way that would be interesting and creative. I decided to do the book review this way because this is what I would find interesting and entertaining in a book review myself. I find conventional written book reports to be quite boring to read, and just plain audio loses my attention very easily because of the lack of visual input. Because of this, I decided to do it in a sort of podcast form, but with pleasing visual images that have something to do with the book, but that would still allow the viewer to maintain his full attention into what I say rather than what they are seeing.
The biggest challenge I had to face while making this project was knowing what exactly to say and pick apart in my review. I saw it as two options, either review the book from a very spiritual and message-guided point of view, or from a very literal and structural point of view. In the end, I found myself doing a blend of both that left me quite satisfied with my end result, and I believe this was a very complete and interesting review of Persepolis.
With this project, I learned that my creativity is quite useful for a lot of situations. I also learned that I am quite creative, as I used to believe that creativity was a very big weakness in me, and now I find it to be neither a weakness nor a strength. This also helped me realize that looking at things from my own interest and point of view can get me some impressive results.

Higher Level Essay
IB Learner Characteristic: Thinker This Higher Level Essay was one of the most challenging pieces of work that I produced for this subject in all of the two years. Still, I really enjoyed doing an essay on a graphic novel, as I believe the amount of things that can be analyzed from one is amazing and these are often overlooked. I was very happy with the fact that we saw a graphic novel within the content of the subject, as I think it is a very interesting change from everything else that we read in any other subject. I believe that this piece of work represents the IB Learner characteristic of thinker because this piece of work really did need a lot of thinking and analyzing to produce. Analyzing a graphic novel is very different from analyzing just a normal novel, as you have to look deep into the symbolism of each and every part of the images, the scheme of these, and just things that one would normally not analyze within just a normal novel. Analyzing a graphic novel, as I said earlier, was a very important challenge that I had to face when writing this essay. Additionally, I often found myself with a lack of outside sources, be it because of poor research from me or because the lack of deep analysis of graphic novels in general, I don't know. Nevertheless, this was a very big challenge that I had to overcome by pulling out more components from the novel to look into myself rather than rely on outside information. This essay also created some emotions in me, as I chose a topic that interests me a lot and that I think is very important and applicable to the world around us right now. Because of this, I felt a certain passion when creating this essay and a drive to actually put effort into it and draw some powerful conclusions from it. |
Mini Mock Oral
IB Learner Characteristic: Balanced This mini mock oral was the final bit of practice that I had before the real IOC that would be sent to the IB. Because of this, I tried my best on it and I also made my best effort to analyze it completely after the fact so that I could learn from any mistakes that were made here. I believe that this Mock Oral was a great example of the balanced learner characteristic, as I was able to achieve a perfect balance between effort, practice, and learning. I put a lot of effort into this so that I could gain some practice, and I also put a lot of effort into learning from my mistakes after the fact. I Believe that my final IOC grade came because of this practice mock oral, and I used it largely to my advantage I remember feeling very nervous about this Mock Oral, as nervous as I was for the first Mock and for the final IOC. I don't know why, but these sort of assessments get me very nervous. Apart from this, I remember feeling very satisfied with what I accomplished from it, both my grade and my benefit from this Mock were amazing. With this Mock Oral I learned that I can be great with oral commentaries, which were very challenging for me across all of the IB program. I also learned that with enough preparation, I was able to achieve anything, even the most difficult and nerve-wracking assignment could be done as long as I prepared myself for it. |
